***Disclosure: Korean BBQ is surprisingly great at making me happy.
It was SinoSoul (aka Tony C) who first told me about the Kobe Beef Korean BBQ at Oo-kook. (Yes, Kobe. Not Kobe-style.) However, something about bastardizing a beautifully marbled piece of meat over a campfire just seemed wrong to me. But I trusted Tony’s opinion (as he had been there before and the man tends to know what he’s talking about), so I decided to join him on a field trip to KTown. The gang included his wifey, Kenny, Rick, and Meaghan.
The place is situated in KTown on 8th and is $25 p/p. At first $25 a person sounds reasonable, however, when compared to other KBBQs, it’s actually on the higher price …

Outdoor Cinema and Food Trucks
by josie on July 22, 2010 Share
Regardless of whether it’s a date or a mate, there’s no doubt that this series of events will be fun. It’s movie night Saturdays near or around downtown LA and food trucks. Can you think of a more uncouth outing? I think not. I’ll probably be around for The Breakfast Club night if anyone would like to join in on some good cheap fun.
This summer series will feature over sixty different gourmet food trucks throughout eight weeks of favorite movie titles. Thee Outdoor Cinema Food Fest creates the ultimate picnic environment for entertainment and food enthusiasts – no basket required!
Movies will be presented using only the highest quality projection, screen and sound available; which includes a 52 foot screen with …
LA Street Food Fest @ the Pasadena Rose Bowl

Did you see us the last LA Street Food Fest? If you didn’t, then I better see you this time around because the LA Street Food Fest is back! As you know, I’m an Eastside girl and so are Shawna Dawson and Sonja, co-founders of the LA Street Food Fest. Shawna and Unique LA’s, Sonja, have partnered up once more to bring you the best of what Los Angeles has to offer in terms of street food life and culture.
Josie’s still broke (don’t feel too bad for me, I’m happy as hell) and will be volunteering once again. I have A VERY SPECIAL JOB this time around so you better stop by and say hello. I’ll be Tweeting the whole …
Taste of the Nation: ‘Word is Bond’
by josie on June 7, 2010 Share
I’ve been listening to a lot of OG rap these days and I got to thinking, what if my life was an ongoing rap video? Unfortunately, it isn’t. However, if it was it would include: free flowing champagne, my best friend (peep), celebrity chefsville, little tidbits of LA’s best food, and a cute boy I once dated long ago. Oh, wait! That was this year’s Taste of the Nation. (Except I didn’t drink – I was driving.)
It’s the one event you wait for all year long, and every year, you’re never disappointed. I wasn’t. Taste of the Nation LA brings together 40 of LA’s ‘it’ restaurants for a great cause. We loved last year’s event and this year we couldn’t wait to volunteer …
1RST Annual Cultural Diversity Day
by josie on June 2, 2010 Share
My passport says I’ve been to over 19 countries around the world, and yet, I still feel I haven’t seen enough of the world. My usual MO is to plan a yearly trip abroad, however, last year was postponed and this year may very well be out of the question as well. The inherent riskiness of starting a business is often underestimated and, as a result, Josie has been pretty damn broke. Just as I was feeling bad for myself, a friend sent me this invite for the First Annual Cultural Diversity Day in Los Feliz this weekend. And well, $8 I can afford.
I know we’re not always PC around here, but we’re always down to try anything – as …
Brunch: The Wrath of Grapes
by josie on June 1, 2010 Share
What’s the biggest thing I DON’T miss about drinking: The hangover. And everyone knows that with brunch comes champagne. As was the case at the birthday party of our newest bestie, Edward, exactly one week ago. Edward was turning — (You don’t really think I’d tell you, do you? I’m a lady and a lady does not talk numbers) and we were all invited to the festivities. Most people would have a party with catered appetizers and a few close friends, but not our Edward; he knows how to party foodie style with all the bells and whistles. Most notably, he had two of the best (and might I add, most adorable) male chefs in LA under his roof, Adam Borich …
SaMo Farmers’ Market

I think I can safely say that on occasion, life really hits you over the head with a large blunt object. I’ve been completely enveloped by, what seems like, an insurmountable amount of problems over the past few weeks. I’ve been lucky and, at present, I can’t believe I’m still standing. My aunt actually asked me today if I was all right; my answer was a weepy but simple, “I don’t know.” A more meaningful question might have been: “How do you know if it’s NOT all right?”
After spending 8 years with someone and then having it be over, I can’t help but feel like I spent the past year and a half of my life trying to make an …
