Did you see us the last LA Street Food Fest? If you didn’t, then I better see you this time around because the LA Street Food Fest is back! As you know, I’m an Eastside girl and so are Shawna Dawson and Sonja, co-founders of the LA Street Food Fest. Shawna and Unique LA’s, Sonja, have partnered up once more to bring you the best of what Los Angeles has to offer in terms of street food life and culture.
Josie’s still broke (don’t feel too bad for me, I’m happy as hell) and will be volunteering once again. I have A VERY SPECIAL JOB this time around so you better stop by and say hello. I’ll be Tweeting the whole …

What do you get when you cross a gourmet food truck with craft beer? My perfect date… without the date, that is. #FML. (Can someone please find me a date?! Anyone? Anyone?) As you all know, Minty is the ‘crawl organizer extraordinaire’ and last Friday she hosted the Craft Beer Crawl in/and around Eagle Rock. Make sure to check out Minty’s review.
Here were the stops:
8 p.m. – Eagle Rock Brewery
3056 Roswell Street
Los Angeles, CA 90065
9:30 p.m. – Verdugo Bar
3408 Verdugo Rd
Los Angeles, CA 90065
11:00 p.m. – The Black Boar
1630 Colorado Boulevard
Los Angeles, CA 90041
I got there a bit early and started chatting up a fellow patron who had gotten stood up by a girl. He looked so sad. …

I was quite excited when I found out I would be covering a craft beer and vegan tasting. I indulge in all types of drinks, but I have a special place in my heart for craft beer. Tony’s Darts Away in Burbank proudly proclaims to be an all-craft, all draft, vegan /not-vegan refurbished dive bar, for beer or wine, with basement couture I must add.
Tony’s serves draft craft beer and draft wine. Wine in a keg? I know what you are thinking… UNCOUTH! I must say the Pink wine is just right; it is not too sweet and not too bitter. My favorite blonde was the Orange Wheat; it has a super light taste with a citrusy aftertaste. I preferred …

When I received the invite to O2 Sushi’s tasting party I was thrilled. Since I am part Japanese, I thought it was right up my alley. I was excited to see what the new Old Town Pasadena restaurant had in store for me.
My favorites of the night were the Tuna Sushi, Seared Albacore Sashimi with sautéed spinach, Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeno, and Sweet Chili Shrimp. O2 only serves the highest quality sushi and it was apparent with their Tuna Sushi. It was so fresh and the Chef prepared it wonderfully. I savored every bit of the Seared Albacore Sashimi. It was seasoned perfectly and definitely the entrée I could not have enough of. The Yellowtail Sashimi had a tangy zest …

Aside from the smorgasbord of delights I get to taste (which make me oh so happy), the best part of this gig is that I get to meet so many interesting people whose common denominator is a love for food. I like to call them ‘The Common Denominators’. They’re your family members, your co-workers, neighbors, and maybe even you. They are lawyers, teachers, grocers, techies, and more. They come in all shapers, sizes, and walks of life. And fortunately for me, I have met about a million of them here in LA. (For this I thank Twitter.)
Two of my favorite Denominators are Vixen and Amber. Vixen runs the Vixen’s LA Happy Hour site and is always on the prowl for a …

It’s the movie that will warm the cockles of the heart and that, rain or shine, we’ll be standing in line to see on Thursday, May 27th. It’s SATC Part Deux! I saw the HBO movie preview and it is still the four girls, a double-take fashion sensibility, and a gay wedding! Side note: Speaking of gay boyfriends, I got the best advice from a gay bf a few months ago. Here’s the lowdown. If you’re dating a man who you feel may be gay but doesn’t know it, ask him one question and if his answer is ‘yes’ then you can almost certainly save yourself a lot of heartache. The question: Do you like the band Erasher? Go figure. It’s true! And let …

To me, the world of specialty mixed cocktails can be sort of like quantum physics- I feel like I have an overall sense of what it entails, and I think I know what the formulas are, but I don’t necessarily understand the final product (and therefore am skeptical when it comes to the whole “cocktail taste to enjoyment to cost” equation.) In fact, this is the precise reason I often stick to beer or wine. If craving a cocktail when facing a bartender, I generally default to the cliché “cranberry vodka”, or my signature cocktail, the Dirty Shirley (this would be a Shirley Temple vodka, and to those who have never ordered their favorite drink from …

Alright folks, I have 3 great deals to report and one great story to tell. First, I will talk about the event that is closest to our heart. There are a ton of food events in LA, my wallet and my waistline know this all to well, but there is one event that was without doubt our favorite. Taste of the Nation LA is so undeniably fantastic! We volunteered last year, met great friends, ate great food, met some amazing chefs (where almost of our pics in the “Chefs” section came from) and we helped out a great cause. When we first heard about the event in Culver City last year we invited our new friend Eli of Freshman in …

And Malibu traps me yet again! As soon as I walked in the door, I was greeted with a shriek by a girl whom I had never met before. Apparently, it was the K from FinerthingsLA and she yelled, “You’re going to think I am such a nerd, but you’re Josie from Uncouth Gourmands! I recognize your hair!” In total disbelief that my hair was more popular than I was, I replied with a ‘yes’ and we poured ourselves a drink. We talked about blogs, boys, and friends. K is co-author to Finer Things LA, which she and her bestie have been operating for about three months now. Their motto is: A Classy Guide on Getting Drunk and Fat in Los Angeles. …

As a Gemini, I am decidedly indecisive. Do I want a raucous, Motley Crue-esque Monday that started all because of an innocent Umami Burger Happy Hour and a few too many Allagash Whites? Or do I want to hermit away in my “Hatch” with some froyo while watching every season of Lost back-to-back, hallucinating that my cat is the black Smoke Monster? Sometimes I just need someone else to make the damned decision for me. So I look to a song, or a story, or a shaman i.e. a couple of pre-game shots. And sometimes even, I look to the stars, both of the silicone-enhanced and the hydrogen/helium-enhanced variety. I …
