Mission: To help users make more informed restaurant decisions.
UGs share a love for food and a lack of etiquette. We are flavorful but rarely correctly seasoned. We are the type of people that go to a small plate restaurant and ask for a bigger plate. We stick an entire enormous roll of sushi in our mouths in one bite and prefer that to inhaling oxygen. We eat with our hands, have no qualms about plastic cutlery, and use chopsticks to fish pickles out of the jar while watching cooking shows. We believe that anything can be stuffed between two slices of bread or rolled up into a tortilla. We are not afraid of getting messy and sometimes we wait until we have something in our mouths to talk.
This is us. This is you. This is where you belong. Welcome to the uncouthgourmands.

We hold at our core a value pyramid of fun, food, and friendship. It is a combination and a reduction of both Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and the FDA’s Food Pyramid.
We are the uncouthgourmands. A group that believes that food, fun, and friendship are the delightful troves of life. We are playful and passionate people who are empowered to meet strangers. We break the rules of fine dinging and etiquette. We boost teetering leaps of faith when it comes to meeting new exciting people and trying new foods. We question conventional approaches to eating and socializing.
Fun: To never take ourselves or the food on our plate too seriously. Laughter is always our favorite ingredient.
Food: Food is culture, context, and a melting pot. We know that it serves many more purposes than survival. We will always strive to try whatever is in front of us (unless it will kill us) as we know that someone worked hard to create it.
Friendship: We treat our friends as family. We make everyone feel welcome and feel that the best friendships are created over a good meal.
This is us. This is you. This is where you belong. Welcome to the uncouthgourmands.

Once upon a midnight snack, the UGs fatefully came together during their university studies in entrepreneurship when, despite not really knowing each other, they decided (via Facebook) to take a chance on each other and trek to Europe after a study abroad trip was canceled. They planned their trip via email, had one drink the night before, and boarded a British Airways flight. It was in Europe where they discovered their mutual love of meeting new people and eating great food. Whether it was a $500 squab in Monaco or 4AM doner kabobs, they realized that the key to a great meal was playfulness. It was on the trains in Europe where their baby uncouthgourmands was born.
After returning to the States, the UGs took their love of technology and started a blog where they recant life’s “awkward turtle” and uncouth moments that arise from being young, passionate urbanites that date, drink, and eat in the big city. Through their website they’ve made a ton of foodie friends and are recognized throughout the town by many Twitter and Facebook devotees. The adventures of the uncouthgourmands are always changing, future uncouthies are coming on aboard, are you? |
